[1. A reagent for the chemical assay of ascorbic acid that depends on the reducing properties of the latter. It is red in acidic solution; in the presence of the vitamin C it undergoes reduction and becomes colorless, the vitamin being oxidized to dehydroascorbic acid. Often misnamed dichlorophenol-indophenol.
