Uses

The B vitamin Niacin is also known as Nicotinic acid. The body converts various forms of the vitamin, into forms it can use.

The methyl ester and benzyl ester forms can be used as a rubefacient (a vasodilator, opening up capillaries, which as a side effect, makes the skin redden, hence the name), and to reduce plasma cholesterol.

Of course, as a vitamin, Niacin aleviates pellagra, the disease caused by the lack of this vitamin.
