I'm going to soon build one, but I have a couple of questions hoping to get a better spark

1) If I were to use teflon tape instead of a rubber band would it improve the spark?

2) I have a plastic pulley, not sure what kind of plastic it is, but it's black and looks a tad like abs, would it help if I cover it with scotch tape?

3) Seems like the fuses break easily, can I replace the metal nail with a plastic rod without hindering results?

Thanks in advance!

If you have some, nylon rod should work instead of the fuse and is much more durable. Consult the table on the VDG page for other alternatives.
