This isn't really an experiment for kids, but I have made wine by mixing yeast into some juice, and letting it ferment for a while. Once the fermenting was done, I filtered out the yeast with paper coffee filters. Then I took the remaining liquid, and heated it very briefly. For those of you old enough to drink, this is a very fascinating experiment to try.
