I have been reading about light and lasers and fascinated by it. I would like to build a laser. My mom said I could do it if it costs between $200 to $500. I need to start from scratch . Can you help me? |

One of the first lasers I built from scratch was from a design in Scientific American's Amateur Scientist column (June 1974). It was a fairly simple and inexpensive nitrogen gas laser. The design used a printed circuit board, but is otherwise identical to the one shown here. A list of nitrogen laser articles is here. More information on the nitrogen laser can be found here. In fact, that whole site is about homebrew lasers, not just the nitrogen version. |

I purchased your laser pointer, and have been trying to disassemble it for one of the experiments. There seems to be a slot in the top where the beam emits and I tried unscrewing that with a screwdriver but after a few turns it got very stiff and I didn't want to try turning more for fear of breaking it. Do you have instructions for disassembling the laser pointer you sell? |

While trying to hook up the laser to the transformer, when I pushed the button on the laser to make sure it was working the light that came out was very dim. I thought this wa sa function of the transformer, so I unplugged the laser and put the batteries back in to it. But the light that comes out of it now is still very dim. Have I damaged the laser? |

I Did Not Take Apart Or Modify Any Of My Lasers but when i plug it in to my sound source, It runs fine but when i turn it off And then Turn it back on its all dim and Broke like. And when i put the normal batteries in it, it's Still Dim I Have The Right Voltage 4.5v And Its Wired Right. I noticed The In The Demo picture there is a resistor on the negitive wire to the laser Can Some Body Help me please |

You have damaged the laser by letting a high voltage spike get to it. The cheaper lasers have no protection against this. To protect against it, put a two-lead bicolor LED across the transformer leads that go to the laser. You can substitute two LEDs arranged back-to-back (so that at least one of them will be lit no matter which direction the voltage is coming from) for the bicolor LED if you like, since the bicolor LED is just a red and a green LED arranged back-to-back. |

I want make a laser pointer from LED because i have opened the laser pointer and i have seen that there were no light in it just a LED an a lens that that adjust the beam. So i want to build laser pointer from a LED. |

No, it really is a laser in there. It just looks like an LED. |

Hello Simon, Please tell me about a pocket laser you have said that their is no LED in laser So tell me what is inside a laser, how it emits the light. How can i make an inexpensive laser with out nitrogen. I shall be thankful to you. |
