I am planing on using the hydrogen bomb design for this "science fair" that I have entered. My question is that you say using the gold connector things instead of the carbon rods would give me more uses out of it, but will does it make it work any better, any worse, or the same? Your advice would be greatly appreicated.

While gold is better than copper, even the connectors I used
were only gold plated, and will not last as long as carbon rods,
which are cheaper. Carbon rods will not deteriorate as much as
any metal electrodes you are able to afford.
