I'd like to thank you for the plan for the "Hydrogen Bomb." I made it for a science project about electrolysis. It was a lot of fun. I got it to get enough gas for a really good effect by putting salt and vinegar with the water, and hooking up two 9-volts in parallel. I could actually see flames inside the chamber when it ignited. It's pretty cool stuff. Now I've got a question. I haven't used it for several days, and something (I assume the saltwater) caused that weird greenish stuff to collect on the outside of the wires for my spark gap, causing there to not be able to be any spark, and therefore making the whole $25 project unusable. Do you know of anything I can use to clean off the wires inside the chamber (i.e. an acid or something? Thanks! |

The vinegar and salt water have corroded the copper wires. If you use regular tap water, this generally does not happen. If you add better electrolytes to improve the speed of the electrolysis, you will want to clean the chamber out with plain water and dry it before storing it. |
