i got a tv from a junkyard 3 days ago for free

i turned it on and it worked great outside for 8 hours

after that i ran cable to my room and set it up
after pluging in the cable i watched it for one day with no problems

the next day i was watching it and after 20 minutes the cable cut out along with the sound and the screen turned white

i turned it off for 1 minute and it worked for about another hour
now it will only last 3 minutes before it cuts out

so whats wrong with my TV???

You got it at a junkyward for free.

It was there because the cost of repairing a modern TV is generally
more than the cost of buying a new one. In this sense, TVs are like pocket
calculators, T shirts, batteries, light bulbs, ball point pens,
pencils, car windshields, condoms, toothbrushes, and cigarette lighters.

The money you spend on the test equipment needed to determine the problem
with your TV is more than the amount you will ever save by repairing all the
TVs you ever own.

On my Sony KV-20T-S30 color tv I have no real color, a bit as yellow near black and white. That happened all of a sudden. I opened it and tried to see in the card connection of the cathode tube if any thing looks wrong. No success. Anybody can help me please. Please Email me! Thanks

Referring to David's problem, the tv could be overheating and a protection circuit could be automatically turning it off. If's that the case, then some computer fans could cool it off enough.

Etchy and black and white... you mean static (aka white noise, 'snow')?
http://www.mediachannel.org/images/tv-static.gif
(also see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_noise )

Color rectangles, you mean SMPTE bars?

(also see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMPTE_color_bars )

Or maybe you mean:

Why are people asking questions about televisions on
a site about toys?

I was considering buying the Sony XBR LCD flat panel TV model #KDL-40XBR2 or XBR3. I also wanted to use it for my computer monitor. My question is can some one who has hooked it up to computer tell me how it works with I do not need super quality resolution but is it decent. The quality of TV picture is important. Also are there any TV with a DVI hook up

Hey, I have a problem! My Sony TV has a perfect picture, great audio, BUT it also has a mind of it's own. With no warning - no rhyme nor reason such as having been on a long time, etc...it turns itself off. We have turned it on, unplugged it for 5 minutes and plugged it back in. It might run as long as a day or two, or turn off again in a few minutes. No repairman in the area has a clue...

Anyone out there know of a solution?

Annie

Sounds like you need to degauss it. when the lightning hit near by it put out a Electromagnetic field that missed up your color, like when you put a magnet near your tv. most newer tvs have a degauss coil. the degauss should be in your tv's menu. if it don't have a degauss coil then you have to get one or if you don't have very much value in the tv you can try using a magnet. look here http://www.ehow.com/how_2041471_degauss-tv.html
