I need to know on the laser transmitter if the positive side of the laser is hooked to the 1000 ohm side of the transformer? Also is the other side of the 1000 ohm transformer connected to the positive side of the battery pack? Is the negative of the laser then hooked to the negative of the power supply? I have been trying to conduct the laser communicator experiment, and I have fried two of the keychain lasers. I have been hooking the positive side of the laser to the positive side of the battery pack, and the negative to the 1000 ohm side. Then I am hooking the the negative side of the battery pack to the other 1000 ohm side of the transformer. What am I doing wrong? I only have one of your keychain laser pointers left! Help! |

The diagram in that section looks like this:
The transformer is simply inserted somewhere between the power supply and the laser. It does not matter if it is on the positive side or the negative side. What kind of batteries are you using? You should use no more than 4.5 volts. If you are damaging the lasers, I would suggest using only the batteries that came with the laser at first. Once you get everything working, you can try using batteries that can supply current for a longer time. However, make sure the voltage never exceeds 4.5 volts. You can also try putting a 100 ohm resistor in series with the battery, to further limit the current, as a safety precaution to prevent damage to the laser. |

When you say in series you mean
Right |
